ORGANIZE YOUR HOME THIS FALL
Fall is one of the busiest times of the year. Children are back at school, holidays are just around the corner, and you are still picking up the pieces of all the summer fun.
The most common problems standing between you and an organized home is the ability to establish a routine.
Putting systems in place will help minimize the effort spent clearing clutter and running around the house trying to find misplaced objects thus, making your life easier. I want to show you some tips that will help you keep an organized house this Fall and put said systems in place.
First on the agenda, keep the whole household in the loop. There is no reason all the responsibility or organizing and cleaning should fall on you.
A family that cleans together stays happy together.
ORGANIZATION STARTS WITH A CALENDAR
Keep a calendar in a common room, such as the kitchen or family room. This helps to keep track of everyone’s important dates and appointments.
Bonus Tip: Have a million instruction manuals sitting in a drawer? Organize them all in a three-ring binder and you’ll never rifle through those drawers again.
CONTROL YOUR CLUTTER
Fall is filled with shorter and shorter days and before you know it, it’s the holidays. Stay organized in less time with less anxiety by storing everything where it needs to go. This goes back to having the whole household helping you out. Let everyone know where the blankets are and where to put them back.
MAKE ROOM FOR CAR AND MORE
One in four Americans can’t fit their car into their garage because it’s too cluttered. Take some time in the warmer Autumn weather to clean and organize your garage. The garage and backyard often get forgotten when you de-clutter your house.
ORGANIZATION STATION OR MUD ROOM
Living in Southern California, there isn’t much need for a mud room, but setting up a station in the entryway or mud room to store the children’s backpacks helps the morning struggle.
This will minimize back-to-school stress, especially when running late in the morning.
Tip: Maximize the morning routine’s potential by picking outfits the day before. If you’re really motivated, use a clothing organizer to lay out a week’s worth of outfits.
DRAFTY
Checking for drafts around windows and doors helps with your gas and electric bill during the cooler months. Inspect the area around windows and doors for any visible gaps or cracking in the caulking. Repairing them is easy, just seal up the cracks with a fresh layer of caulk.
GET READY FOR THE HOLIDAYS
Designate one shelf in a utility or linen closet for party essentials, such as candles, place cards, napkins, vases, and your ‘fancy’ china. This alleviates added stress of finding everything during the holiday season while preparing the meals or parties.
These tips are a helpful guideline to get you started on de-cluttering your life. It is important to not stress on the little things and not let everything build until it is unmanageable. Trying to get everything done at once will always make a situation more stressful, one person cannot do everything. Try doing a little at a time or pick designated days and times to work on it. Also, don’t be afraid to ask help from those in your village.
